Naidu Launches ₹5,400 Crore Solar Manufacturing Project in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has laid the foundation stone for a major solar manufacturing facility being developed by ReNew Energy Global at Rambilli in Anakapalli district.

The project, which is expected to further strengthen the state’s renewable energy sector, will involve an investment of about ₹5,400 crore and is designed to produce 6.5 gigawatts of solar ingots and wafers.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, Naidu described the investment as an important development for Andhra Pradesh, particularly as the state seeks to position itself as a leading destination for clean energy and industrial investments.

The Chief Minister said Anakapalli district was gradually becoming one of the state’s major industrial centres, with several large-scale projects either underway or in the pipeline. He pointed to the recent commencement of work on the proposed steel plant by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India as another indication of the district’s growing importance to the state’s industrial development.

Naidu said the ReNew Energy project would contribute significantly to the development of Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem by supporting local production of key components required for solar power projects.

According to him, the state government is working to attract more investments in renewable energy generation, manufacturing and related infrastructure as part of its broader clean energy development strategy.

He disclosed that Andhra Pradesh is targeting a green energy generation capacity of 160 gigawatts in the coming years. The state, he added, has already attracted renewable energy investment commitments estimated at ₹5.95 lakh crore.

The Chief Minister further revealed that proposals and agreements covering projects with a combined capacity of nearly 90 gigawatts are currently being developed. He also said NTPC Green Energy is expected to invest about ₹1.85 lakh crore in various projects across the state.

Naidu stressed that the government’s renewable energy strategy was not limited to electricity generation but also included the development of a strong manufacturing base capable of producing equipment and components needed by the growing clean energy industry.

He identified Rambilli as an area with significant potential to become a major manufacturing centre for solar equipment. While districts such as Anantapur and Kurnool have already established themselves as important producers of solar and wind power, he said Rambilli was expected to play a different but equally important role by focusing on the production of solar energy equipment.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the state government’s plans to promote electric mobility as part of its wider environmental and clean energy agenda.

He announced that the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation would introduce 1,050 electric buses as the state continues to encourage the adoption of cleaner transportation options.

In addition, the government plans to establish 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations across Andhra Pradesh. The initiative is expected to support the growing use of electric vehicles and provide the infrastructure required for a more sustainable transport system.

The government’s push for renewable energy and electric mobility is part of a broader effort to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources while creating new opportunities for investment, manufacturing and employment.

With the establishment of ReNew Energy Global’s solar manufacturing facility, Rambilli is expected to gain greater prominence within Andhra Pradesh’s emerging clean energy industry.

The project is also expected to complement the state’s expanding renewable energy investments by providing locally manufactured solar components for projects within Andhra Pradesh and potentially other markets.

The foundation stone ceremony therefore marks another step in the state’s ambition to build an integrated renewable energy ecosystem, combining power generation, equipment manufacturing, electric mobility and supporting infrastructure.

The government believes that continued investment in these areas will help strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s industrial base while advancing its long-term goal of becoming a major hub for green energy production and manufacturing.
