African creativity, European innovation and the growing global transition towards sustainable mobility are set to converge in Milan next month, as Artnovation and Hybrid Motors Nigeria Limited prepare to unveil a new artistic project highlighting the role of renewable energy, clean mobility and innovation in shaping a sustainable future.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, the organisations announced that they would unveil “The Bridge of Motion,” the 17th installation in Artnovation’s Thread of Continents series, during the opening of Echoes of Renaissance in the Hues of Africa at Fondazione Luciana Matalon in Milan on September 16, 2026.
Curated by Foluke Michael, Chief Curator of Artnovation, the first 16 works in the series examined the evolving relationship between Africa and Europe through themes such as memory, encounter, trade, exchange and cooperation.
The 17th installation broadens that conversation by introducing renewable energy, sustainable mobility, technological innovation and sustainable development. Its designation as No. 17 also carries a deliberate reference to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing the project’s focus on building a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Michael described the project as a fresh chapter in the creative and developmental relationship between Africa and Europe, noting that the initiative moves beyond cultural exchange to explore how innovation and sustainability can shape future opportunities.
She said The Bridge of Motion is not merely focused on a vehicle, but on what mobility can achieve when creativity, renewable energy, sustainable development and innovation are brought together.
From the renewable energy perspective, the project highlights the growing need to connect clean energy solutions with transportation systems as countries seek to reduce dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-powered mobility and accelerate the transition towards more sustainable technologies.
For Hybrid Motors Nigeria Limited, the partnership represents more than an opportunity to showcase mobility technology. The company is focused on developing sustainable and indigenous mobility solutions suited to the West African environment while creating opportunities for technical, institutional and commercial cooperation with European partners.
Its founder, Jubril Arogundade, said the company’s vision goes beyond vehicle development to include sustainable mobility solutions designed for West Africa and stronger collaboration with European stakeholders.
According to him, the Milan unveiling could serve as the starting point for a wider Africa-Europe partnership focused on sustainable mobility, with art providing a platform for imagining how innovation and renewable energy can transform transportation and other areas of development.
The initiative also aligns with priorities associated with the European Union’s Global Gateway strategy, particularly in the areas of sustainable transport and renewable energy. Discussions surrounding the project are expected to explore opportunities involving European technology, technical expertise, institutional partnerships and sustainable financing.
The collaboration builds on the AfroItalian Renaissance initiative, launched in partnership with the Italian Consulate General in Lagos in December 2025. What began primarily as a cultural exchange has since expanded into a broader platform for conversations around creativity, innovation, enterprise, sustainability and shared economic opportunities between Africa and Europe.
Echoes of Renaissance in the Hues of Africa will officially open at Fondazione Luciana Matalon in Milan at 5 p.m. CEST on September 16, with the exhibition opening to the public from September 17 to 29.
The organisers said the exhibition is built around a central question: What happens when Africa and Europe choose to design the future together?
Through The Bridge of Motion, the partners seek to demonstrate that creativity can connect continents, while renewable energy and sustainable mobility can provide the momentum needed to build a cleaner, more innovative and sustainable future.
