China-Nigeria economic cooperation is expected to receive a boost as businesses from both countries prepare to explore opportunities in renewable energy, power and lighting at a major international exhibition in Lagos.
The Nigeria International New Energy and Power Industry Expo and Nigeria International Lighting Exhibition is scheduled for September 16–18 at the Landmark Centre, Lagos. More than 100 international companies from 28 countries and regions are expected to participate.
Organised by Zhongsheng International Business Co. Limited, the three-day event will bring together government officials, manufacturers, investors, distributors and energy professionals. The exhibition is themed, “Light of Net-Zero: Empowering Nigeria’s Energy Transition.”
The company’s General Manager, Lin Xueying, said the expo would create opportunities for international energy companies to connect with Nigerian businesses and tap into the country’s growing clean energy market. The 6,000-square-metre exhibition is expected to attract more than 8,000 professional buyers.
Exhibitors will showcase solar photovoltaic systems, energy storage solutions, microgrids, power distribution equipment, solar and street lighting technologies, intelligent control systems and other renewable energy services.
Xueying identified major Nigerian energy programmes, including the Tinubu Light Initiative and the DARES Project, as key drivers of investment opportunities. She said the initiatives could expand access to renewable energy while creating opportunities for equipment supply, local assembly, engineering services and joint-venture manufacturing.
The exhibition will also feature a Cross-Border Industrial Cooperation Forum, where Nigerian and international companies are expected to discuss partnerships, local production and joint-venture opportunities. China’s Consul-General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, said the event was timely as both countries mark 55 years of diplomatic relations, noting that bilateral trade exceeded $28 billion last year.
A Lagos State government official, Akintubosun, urged investors to ensure that energy investments translate into local manufacturing, job creation, skills development and technology transfer. Organisers said they expect the exhibition to generate practical partnerships and investments capable of improving electricity access and strengthening Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.
