The Federal Government has opened applications for a free solar photovoltaic (PV) installation training programme designed to equip Nigerians with practical skills for careers in the growing renewable energy sector.
The programme is being organised in collaboration with Siemens Energy and the German development agency GIZ, under the Siemens Energy Education and Development (SEED) project.
The initiative is supported by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme, which receives funding from the European Union and the German Government and is implemented by GIZ.
According to the organisers, the training will combine classroom-based learning with practical exercises, technical visits to operational sites and competency assessments. The approach is designed to give participants both the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills required for solar PV installation.
Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive professional certification from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), providing formal recognition of the skills acquired during the training.
The programme is open to a wide range of applicants. People with previous practical experience in solar installation are eligible to apply, while those without formal education or prior experience in the field are also encouraged to participate.
Recent graduates with National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) or undergraduate qualifications are eligible, alongside young professionals working in related areas and individuals seeking to build careers in renewable energy.
However, applicants must be prepared to participate fully in the programme, as the training will be conducted physically over a period of three weeks.
Interested Nigerians are required to complete the online Expression of Interest form before 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.
Applicants will be expected to provide basic personal information, including their full name, gender, telephone number, email address and preferred training location.
The training will be delivered at designated centres in Lagos and Abeokuta, Ogun State, with each session running for three weeks and requiring participants to attend onsite.
The organisers said the training and certification will be provided at no cost to participants. Meals will also be available to trainees on training days.
The programme is expected to provide participants with practical technical skills that can improve their employment prospects and support the expansion of Nigeria’s renewable energy workforce.
With growing demand for solar power and other decentralised energy solutions across Nigeria, the initiative is also aimed at developing a larger pool of trained personnel capable of supporting the installation and maintenance of solar energy systems.
